Borsha Boron 2025: Ilish Utsav and Other Delights

By Payal | May 29,2025

We’re back with our yearly delight! Are you joining us?

This 2025, we decided to revamp our sweet ol’ Ilish Utsav a tad. Every year Sundarban receives gazillions of tourists during this time of the year. Not because of adventure or water sports, but solely for the food.

With the onset of the monsoons, the deltaic Sundarbans receive plenty of Hilsa (Ilish) fish. Icon of the Bengali household, Ilish is known as the queen of fishes. When monsoon arrives, The Ilish Utsav begins. The festival centres around mouthwatering delicacies and adventurous itineraries.

The scenic beauty of the delta and its mangroves, the mystery maze of rivers and tributaries and a whole lot of the best fish delicacies. What a catch, right? Don’t miss out on Sunderban Borsha Boron, 2025. Join our family and immerse in the adventure of a lifetime.

Ilish: The Queen of Fishes

Smoother than butter and melts like wax when you take a bite – Hilsa is the Queen of Fishes. During the monsoon, the mother fish migrates from fresh water to the delta to lay eggs. This is when the Ilish fish is abundantly available in the fisheries of the Sundarbans. Thus, the flocking of tourists.

The fish receives its popularity because of its silky texture and sweet taste. Every year, we eagerly wait for the arrival of the Hilsa season. Then we start preparing unique delicacies. From Ilish Bhaja (Hilsa Fish Fry) to Ilish Bhapa (Steamed Ilish) – the list is never-ending. Every delicacy is unique. Each showcases the versatile taste of the Hilsa fish and its richness.

In the land of mystically interconnected waterways, river cruising is an enticing experience. On Day 2, we have planned a river cruise for you. Enjoy the magical maze of streams and tributaries of the Sundarbans mangrove forest.

Explore the waters, witness the beauty of the aquascape and catch glimpses of animals you never thought you’d encounter. If lady luck is a friend- you may catch sight of the rare and exquisite Olive Ridley turtles, the Brahminy Kites and the egrets.

Arriving at an archipelago of 152 islands promises more seafood than one has encountered. However, it isn’t just a platter of seafood and fish. We, at Solitary Nook, have arranged wholesome and authentic meals, thrice a day.

Besides this, there’s also the option for evening snacks and post-breakfast munchies. Including pakoras, the renowned Amudi fish fries and finger chips.

The lunches are filled with seasonal delights. Namely, the Ilish fish. From the basic Ilish bhaja (fish fry) to the rare & authentic Shorshe Ilish. Versatility hasn’t yet come to a stop. Other Ilish delicacies that will be served on the trip include Begun Ilish and Pui Ilish.

Besides Ilish, there’s also a platter of authentic seafood. From crabs (Kakra Jhaal), and shrimps to the well-known Amudi fish fries. However, the list is endless. So, hop on our cab to satisfy your tastebuds.

3. Rabindranath Tagore Bungalow

Also known as The Beacon Bungalow built by Lord Hamilton in 1903. Hamilton’s initiatives in Gosaba influenced our Nobel Laureate to build something similar in Shantiniketan.

Located by the banks of the Vidyadhari River. The bungalow offers a picturesque view and takes you back to the days of Tagore. On your way to this historical landmark, you will also be taken to visit Mangrove plantations. Enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the landscape.
